Sometimes you’re starting from thin air, but often you’re RE–WORKING CLASSICS (in very SUBJECT-OBJECT COLOURS, of course). MYK is a dream built from a frame that came with nothing but a seat post. THINGS THAT NO LONGER DELIGHT ME, COVER PROPOSAL for a BOOK of POETRY by LESLIE CHANG and FORDHAM UNIVERSITY PRESS. (unused)

Sometimes projects don’t work out, but they can produce some HAPPY RESULTS. The tone and meaning of LESLIE CHANG’s correspondence and approach inspired the IMAGERY. Working through ideas of MEMORY, IMMIGRATION, TRADITION, FAMILY, and HISTORY led to this PROPOSAL, which calls upon the mystical potential of Chinese firecrackers. But given the widespread laws that make them contraband, a HOME-MADE, CRAFTIER SOLUTION was used. What RESULTED was something FUN, DRY, and STILL LITERARY. (One hopes! THANKS, LESLIE.)

Whatever the belief system, whomever the audience, every year culminates in one event at SUBJECT-OBJECT — the DESIGNER HOLIDAY CARD. Seemingly random in nature, loose with themes, and either abstract or obscure in meaning, they are a thrill to produce and invested with as much care as any project. A section of the SUBJECT-OBJECT.NET site, called DREAMY, will soon be changed to MIND CANDY, just because, frankly, it’s just A LITTLE LESS GRATING. As SOME of you may know, this is a little SECTION DEVOTED to OBJECTS, MOMENTS, VIEWS, and WORKS that just DISTRACT in a REALLY DELICIOUS WAY. They are PLACES and THINGS that are INSPIRING in THEIR VERY EXISTENCE, making it worthwhile to FOCUS a CAMERA’S EYE in their direction. They are NOT COMMERCIAL ENDORSEMENTS, but many are TESTED OBJECTS of AFFECTION that are considered personally DELIGHTFUL. Attempts are made to UPDATE the PLAYLIST THURSDAYS, EVERY TWO WEEKS. But when ON THE ROAD, like this week, that MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE. So instead, have a look through PAST FILINGS, which should be ARCHIVED HERE for your WANDERING CONCENTRATION. October, 2009, sees the release of LONGER I WAIT, MORE YOU LOVE ME, by WENDY S. WALTERS, through California’s PALM PRESS (palmpress.org). 124 pages of long-form verse and prose available through SPDBOOKS.ORG and AMAZON.COM. This was a labor of collaborative love, threading themes like ROMANCE, COLDNESS, HUMOR, MYSTERY, SPACE, HURRICANE KATRINA, BRAZIL, and PROVIDENCE through the book’s interior and cover. Ms. Walters’s words are HOT-NESS. (b.t.w., CAN YOU FIND THE FACE?)
