FEATURED! : COLLECTION ‘o6

IMAGE of COLLECTION ’06 Department Show Campaign FEATURED
on COROFLOT Portfolio Site. Yes, it’s shameless self-promotion, but flattering nonetheless.

Ten years after graduating from the APPAREL DEPARTMENT at RISD,
it was a privilege to get to do this project, just as a sort of… moment. The
CAMPAIGN encompassed a POSTER, BROCHURES, a DVD COVER,
a T-SHIRT PROPOSAL, and a few other pieces. In any case, you can find
a lot of
WORK from WWW.SUBJECT-OBJECT.NET more READILY ACCESSIBLE as a PORTFOLIO of IMAGES at WWW.COROFLOT.COM/TRATANAWORK. Today, the overall image
of the
COLLECTION ’06 CAMPAIGN was featured on their MEMBER GALLERY PAGE
. (THANKS, COROFLOT!) http://www.coroflot.com/public/project_home.asp

THINGS THAT NO LONGER DELIGHT ME

THINGS THAT NO LONGER DELIGHT ME, COVER PROPOSAL for a BOOK of POETRY by LESLIE CHANG and FORDHAM UNIVERSITY PRESS. (unused)

Sometimes projects don’t work out, but they can produce some HAPPY RESULTS. The tone and meaning of LESLIE CHANG’s correspondence and approach inspired the IMAGERY. Working through ideas of MEMORY, IMMIGRATION, TRADITION, FAMILY, and HISTORY led to this PROPOSAL, which calls upon the mystical potential of Chinese firecrackers. But given the widespread laws that make them contraband, a HOME-MADE, CRAFTIER SOLUTION was used. What RESULTED was something FUN, DRY, and STILL LITERARY. (One hopes! THANKS, LESLIE.)

HAPPY WHICH HOLIDAY

NON-DENOMINATIONAL, ALL-INCLUSIVE, POLITICALLY PEACEFUL, WINTER HOLIDAY CARD 0910!

Whatever the belief system, whomever the audience, every year culminates in one event at SUBJECT-OBJECT — the DESIGNER HOLIDAY CARD. Seemingly random in nature, loose with themes, and either abstract or obscure in meaning, they are a thrill to produce and invested with as much care as any project. Here’s to the end of ’09 and the arrival of a new year : the TIGER, GRRRRRR! (oh, and MIND CANDY UPDATED at WWW.SUBJECT-OBJECT.NET)

For a stroll through HOLIDAYS PAST, have a look below.

BLOOD, SWEAT, and TEARS, AFTER a FASHION

TYPOGRAPHY + ART DIRECTION for TENNIS MAGAZINE FALL FASHION, 2007, with photography by SARAH WILMER.

So how surprising was it to open up the FEBRUARY ’09 issue of COMMUNICATION ARTS MAGAZINE and find a feature on the very talented SARAH WILMER! (www.sarahwilmer.com) She was kind enough to share credit, including TENNIS’s Photo Editor, DAVID ROSENBERG.

But what’s REALLY worth mentioning about this shoot (ON FILM, by the way), is not the safari-like trek through the wilds of Prospect Park’s drug pushers, hustlers, or even the weeks worth of location scouting when we saw where DEEP THROAT was filmed, as well as a squirrel fall flat out of a tree like a rubber water bottle splat… Rather, we had a HATE CRIME COMMITTED! Near the end of a very long day, with every weather condition imaginable, in broad-ish daylight, witnesses galore, in front of the AUDUBON SOCIETY of all places, David got JUMPED by a gaggle of teens who apparently travel in packs looking to make assumptions and bust people up. POLICE, AMBULANCES, REPORTS, ARRESTS… Who said fashion isn’t BLOOD, SWEAT, and TEARS?
